Day 17 of TN farmers protest: From skulls to snakes

March 30, 2017, 12:50 p.m.

It is 17 days since Jantar Mantar in New Delhi has been the epicentre of Tamil Nadu farmers' agitation. Owing to extreme drought in their state and having suffered severe losses due to crop failure, the farmers have been demanding a waiver of loans in nationalised banks, similar to what state's former CM Jayalalithaa had done with respect to their loans in state-run banks. The agitation has taken different routes to grab the attention of PM Modi - from skulls of alleged dead farmers, mock funerals, attempts to commit suicide and finally to holding snakes in their mouths. The farmers are determined to chart out a solution with Centre's help and not let this remain a 'dead' issue.
