India are the defending champions of the ICC Champions Trophy and they will be looking to retain the title.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017, even before it began, was plagued with injuries. Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Murali Vijay and many other Indian players have been nursing injuries. While the others chose to pull out of the tournament to regain match fitness before the ICC Champions Trophy, Kohli worked on his fitness and made his comeback on Friday and immediately announced his arrival by scoring a swashbuckling fifty.
But the problem does not lie there. It lies with the fact that other Indian star batsmen MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane have been struggling with their willows and that is not a good sign at all. If these batsmen continue to remain out of form, then the Indian captain have plenty of reasons to worry about.
Rohit has 9 runs from 4 innings, Dhoni has 33 from the same number of matches and Rahane has managed to score 89 runs from as many games. These are awful numbers considering the capabilities of these superstar Indian batsmen.
However, Shikhar Dhawan has been amongst runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad and that can be a good thing for Kohli is it is still unknown whether KL Rahul will be fit on time ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.
Meanwhile, the young Indian players like Manish Pandey, Krunal and Hardik Pandya have been extremely impressive in IPL 2017. Kohli would be watching all these performances closely.
